A 1-step paint correction is a detailing process designed to improve a vehicle’s paint by removing light to moderate imperfections such as:

• Swirl marks
• Light scratches
• Oxidation
• Minor water spots
• Haze from improper washing
• Removes ~50–70% of paint defects (depending on paint hardness and severity of damage)
• Noticeably glossier and clearer finish
• Not perfect, but significantly improved
• Ideal for daily drivers or vehicles where full correction isn't necessary or cost-effective

Step 1: Compounding (Cutting Stage)

• Uses an abrasive compound and a cutting pad
• Removes deeper swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, etching, and more severe defects
• Leaves behind micro-marring or haze (common after heavy correction)

Step 2: Polishing (Finishing Stage)

• Uses a polish and a finishing pad
• Refines the paint, removes haze or micro-marring from Step 1
• Brings out high clarity, depth, and gloss

• Requires more experience to perform safely
• Risk of over-thinning clear coat

Initial Compounding

• Removes deep scratches, severe swirl marks, oxidation, etching
• Uses a heavy-cut compound and aggressive cutting pad
• Wet-Sand

Refining Cut

• Refines the surface after the heavy cut
• Targets any remaining medium-level defects or hazing
  • Uses a less aggressive compound/polish and pad
  • Prepares paint for final refinement

Finishing Polish

• Brings out maximum clarity, gloss, depth, and reflection
• Removes any minor haze or micro-marring from step 2
• Uses an ultra-fine finishing polish and soft pad

Semi-permanent solution, but not truly permanent. Here’s a breakdown of its longevity and what affects it:

• Results typically lasts 6-9 months, sometimes longer depending on climate and exposure.

1. Plastic headlights are prone to UV damage; they’ll degrade again over time unless sealed.
2. The outer layer of the headlight is partially removed during sanding, and this layer often includes UV inhibitors. Once it's gone, the lens becomes more vulnerable.
3. Environmental exposure accelerates re-oxidation

Can last up to 3 years or more; a semi-permanent solution that significantly improves clarity and safety. While not permanent due to the natural aging of plastic and exposure to elements, the process offers long-lasting results when done with quality materials and proper technique.

Compared to temporary methods like polishing alone, this approach is a worthwhile investment, offering years of improved visibility and a refreshed appearance with minimal maintenance.
